On Saturday, October 9th, the South Salem Fire Department held its 4th annual Open House from 11AM to 3PM. The event took place during national Fire Prevention Week and is meant to showcase to the community the fire department's apparatus and firehouse along with demonstrating the importance of fire prevention and safety.

This year's open house allowed attendees to watch as firefighters demonstrated their response to an automobile accident along with the process by which crash victims are removed from their vehicles. Children also received a warm welcome from Sparky the Fire Dog, courtesy of Vista Fire Department, as they enjoyed the fire truck bounce house and fire safety demonstration trailer, courtesy of Bedford Village Fire Department. The Lewisboro Police Department and the New York State Police were also on hand to install and inspect child seats for parents. Firefighters provided attendees with plenty of food and refreshments throughout the day as community members gathered to enjoy the fall weather.

According to the Chief, this was the department's most well attended open house yet and they look forward to doing it again next year. The department would like to thank everyone that participated and made it such a success.
