On Saturday, October 12th, the South Salem Fire Department held its 7th annual Open House from 11AM to 3PM commemorating the department's 75th year anniversary. The event took place during National Fire Prevention Week and is meant to showcase to the community the fire department's apparatus and firehouse along with demonstrating the importance of fire prevention and safety. This year's theme was "Prevent Kitchen Fires" since more fires start in the kitchen than in any other part of the home.

This year's open house allowed attendees to pick up a fire hose and spray water on a simulated fire. Children also received a warm welcome from Sparky the Fire Dog, courtesy of the Vista Fire Department, as they enjoyed the fire truck bounce house and fire safety demonstration trailer, courtesy of the Bedford Village Fire Department. The New York State Police were also on hand to install and inspect child seats for parents and the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps was available to do blood pressure screenings. And the biggest hit of the day appeared to be a demonstration given by the Westchester County Police starring Daisy the Arson Detecion K9! Firefighters provided attendees with plenty of food and refreshments throughout the day as community members gathered to enjoy the nice fall weather.

According to the Chief, this was the department's most well attended open house yet and they look forward to doing it again next year. The department would like to thank everyone that participated and made it such a success.
