Odor of Smoke Investigation Turns Up Electrical Issue
By Ex-Chief Andrew Llewellyn
April 1, 2025
An odor of smoke within a residence was called into SSFD headquarters during our Monday night drill. With personnel at the department, a chief and engine company quickly responded. An investigation determined the cause of the odor to be an electrical issue with a chandelier. This small electrical problem could have become a larger emergency had the odor been ignored. Please don't hesitate to contact the fire department if you have a concern or question in regards to a possible hazard in you home, we are here for you.
The South Salem Fire Department is staffed by volunteers and we are always seeking new members from our community. We drill Monday nights at 7:00 pm. This is an excellent opportunity to meet your local volunteer firefighters, learn more about the fire service and perhaps pick up an application. We look forward to meeting you.
